2012.12.26 New Project Announcement: PlusAlpha

This has been in planning for a while, but we finally decided firmly to pursue the project and create something we can actually release.  Here's what we can tell you now:
1. PlusAlpha will be a personal accounting software.
2. It will be useful to people who are not accounting experts, without getting in the way of those who are. (i.e. it will be easy to use but follow standard accounting rules and terminology).
3. It will have real-world budgeting features and allow cash flow planning for upcoming months.
4. Unlike any other accounting software we know, it will have auto-prorate and auto-entry features where a user can enter a new known balance at the beginning or end of a transaction, and the program will automatically generate adjustment transactions required to reach that balance.  As more transactions are entered, the software will revise the adjustments as necessary to keep things in synch.  This feature is important because we realize that not everybody has time to save every single receipt and track every single yen - yet proper accounting demands that you do so, or enter adjustment transactions manually.
5. Split transactions are normal every day events, and so they will not be a special case in PlusAlpha.
6. PlusAlpha will be available and supported for Mac OS X and Windows. (Along with unofficial support for Linux).
7. PlusAlpha will be made available under an open source license.

Further details, including a tentative development schedule, will be released shortly.
